In journalism and communications classes, article assignments are assigned frequently, and it can be highly difficult to keep up with the workload. Either way, almost everyone dreads writing an article, and having a limited time span in which to do it only makes the obligation more terrifying.

However, it is possible to finish your article assignment in less time that you would ever imagine. If you follow some of the suggestions outlined below, you can write and complete your article assignment in thirty minutes or less. Here’s how.

Gather Some Background Information

Use online sources to collect a bit of background data on your subject. If you are working on a thirty minute time frame, you cannot afford to use text books or primary sources. Instead of searching for obscure information, perform a cursory web search and open tabs on the first three results. Scan them quickly, and look for information that is unique between the three of the sources. Copy these sources into a single document file. Begin to think about how best to organize these points together.

Write, Right Now

Open a separate document file and write an introduction for your paper. If you want to finish your article quickly, you cannot worry about the quality of your writing. For now just put down whatever comes to mind. You can edit it later. Focus on amassing as high a word count as possible. Do not be afraid of rambling a little. Let your imagination flow free and you may be surprised by how much you have to say about a subject. Keep in mind the research information you have collected.

Add Your Research

Keep writing, moving from your introduction to your article’s main body. Again, make sure to write furiously, with little regard for the syntax, grammar, sentence construction, or quality of your writing. Worrying about quality is what slows writers down and prevents them from meeting deadlines. As you write, weave in some of the facts you have found online. Edit the sentences you have copied and pasted from the internet, or rewrite them entirely, so you are not at risk of committing plagiarism. Find a way to tie all the points together.

Finally, add your conclusion. Find a way to make sense of the points that you have woven into your essay. Again, trust your gut and intuition and do not stop writing until you are done.
